You decide what your emotional health is based on your choices. In fact, you have control over your emotions even if you have never realized this before. Most people even have the choice of being depressed or not. Take a look at the emotional health and depression facts that make this so.
There Is Hope
Whoever you are and whatever mental health issues you may have, you can enjoy better emotional health. If you have a serious mental illness like depression, if you want to worry less, or if you just want to feel better than you do now this can be done.
It may not be popular for individuals to take control of their emotional health unless they have serious psychological issues but anyone who wants to improve their depression, their constant worrying, or their lives can do that. You can do it.
You Can Control Your Emotional Health
Your emotions are not based on what people say to you, what you see, or what happens to you. Your emotions are based on your own habitual feeling patterns and your own beliefs. Both these patterns and beliefs can be changed by you. You have control of what you think, of course, but you also have control of how you feel.
If circumstances decided how you feel for you then everyone would feel the same way about everything and everyone would be dealing with depression. The fact that people have different responses to the same events helps to show that it is the individual choosing their own feelings about events rather than those events dictating emotional response. You do not have to be dealing with depression, worry, anger, or any negative feelings if you don’t want to. You are always in control of your emotions, whether you recognize that fact or not.
You Have To Take Control
If you want to understand how to overcome depression and you want better emotional health and then you need to take control of your thoughts and emotions. You need to find new ways of looking at your life and everything that happens in it so that you can be happy or at least at peace with everything that happens. You need to keep working at this long enough for neuro plasticity to start taking over and for your mind to restructure itself to match this new state of emotional health.
Make this a real exercise. Stop and look at any event in your life that doesn’t make you happy. Now, find a new way of looking at it so that you can see how this event might actually be a good thing. If you have trouble getting yourself to devote enough time and effort to this exercise then start writing out your new positive perspectives.
Don’t let any event in life pass without you writing down why you should be happy about it. It may take a few tries to get the ball rolling but if you make yourself come up with positive aspects for all situations then you will see that they are always there.
You can choose to look at life the way you always do and feel depression or other negative feelings or you can learn to look at life in a new way. You can purposefully make choices that lead to better emotional health or you can choose by default to look at life like you always have and remain in depression. You just won’t be able to pretend that you’re not in control of your emotions anymore.
